Quietly, the perpetrator leaves his hideout to depart from the crime scene...

Hm.
Well I guess enough time elapsed so that everybody who was remotely interested in thetravelogue has either lost interest or was subjected to the extended slideshow withaudiocommentary and food.

So I'll spare you from the rest of this long story (until I desperately need a filler and/or feel the need to bury you in an avalanche of words :)) and officially declare that part of the blog closed.

Expect other new and exciting stories in the future!

Why the hell should I care for some other people's holiday? - part un

Welcome, Ladies and Gentlemen let me present you the very first official post on this blog :)
I intended to make the wedding the topic for this first view into the Abyss my mind, but alas there was not enough time last week and so I will start with our honeymoon in Asia.
"funny and interesting" stories and pictures about the wedding will follow later1.

So let us start with the first installment of "Why the hell should I care for some other people's holidays?"

The flight (Frankfurt - Singapore Hanoi) was exceptionally uneventfull (not even the traditional make-Landa-spill-his-breakfast-coffee-turbulences I encountered on every flight so far). Singapore Airlines has a great selection of on-demand movies and TV series (they even had an episode of my new favourite series 'House, M.D.' I hadn't seen yet) and the flight attendands were very nice and helpful. Why, oh why can't SIA take over all long-distance flights from Lufthansa? :)

When I wasn't watching action-movies2 I read my very last Dan Brown novel: 'Meteor'. I hereby swear to never ever buy another of his books for self-consumption - altough I might use them as presents for people that I want to die of boredom. But I promise to only use that weapon as a last resort and after the other side initiated bad-writing warfare.
According to our travel-guide book it is not allowed to import books (except for travel guides and similar stuff) into Vietnam unless you have a written permission of the vietnamese embassy for them3 and after about 200 pages I was really looking forward to Hanoi. The police officer at customs there didn't want it either - maybe he allready read 'the Davinci Code' or something.

During landing approach at Singapore airport the nice austrian girl sitting next to my wife and me helpfully told us that a large part of the city - including the airport - is literally built on sand (IIRC the correct term is 'reclaimed land').
THANKS A LOT.
Well, at least that means that the singaporean people don't have a lot of skeletons in their basements4.
For one, they don't have any basements and because their government surely forbade such inappropriate and unsanitary behaviour.

Enough for now, I'm getting hungry5 and there's a nice dinner with my name on it in the Hotel restaurant. See you again for the next installment of "why the hell should I care for some other guy's holiday?".

(Yeah, there will be some actual description about the countries and places we visit later on in this series, trust me *g*).

Note 1
a warning to my friends and wedding guests: reading my blog (or pretending to have read it) will not absolve you from attending the slideshows that will follow at a later date (but at least, there will be candy!)

Note 2
Triple irony bonus for watching "V for Vendetta" while flying to Singapore! Landa 4tW!

Note 3
Fortunately, this seems to be an exaggeration. One just isn't allowed to import pornography and books critical of the vietnamese government and their partyline.
Unfortunately this still rules out Heinlein and a good third of the rest of my SF collection.

Note 4
Yes Mr. Languagepoliceman, that's a rather gruesome mangling of proverbs from two different languages - but as they say: you can't make an omelett with one stone :)

Note 5
Not even one post on this blog and I allready talk about the state of my digestive system. That's a new low ;)

Let's see what this does.

This isn't actually a post. I'm just here to put up the mikes and the instruments and do the sound check.

The real first post will come in the next few days.
